A tour of the Nave of the Church and a movie about the transfer of the Church
Gothic church of Assumption of the virgin Mary was built in place of the original gothic basilica that was severely damaged in a fire of the old town of Brüx in 1515. The architect of the new church was Jakub Heilmann from Schweinfurt, a student of Benedict Rejt. Building began in 1517, and ended at the beginning of the 17th century. It is a three nave church with ribbed vaulting and an early renaissance portal.
In the 1970s it was decided by the government that the town of Brüx would be demolished, and rebuilt elsewhere, because of coal mining. The gothic church needed to be moved, Ministry of Culture supervised the project. The gothic church was transported 841 meters, average speed was 2,16 centimeters per minute. The transport started on the 30th of october in 1975 and took about 646 hours.
